How to Disable Pesky Outlook Addins

Sometimes programs do more than just install themselves.  They’ll potentially integrate with other applications on your computer as well.  And sometimes they don’t play nicely.

A common issue is with Outlook plugins.  Things like antivirus, anti-malware, and spam filters will commonly install an outlook plugin.  So if your Outlook is crashing randomly or becomes very sluggish all of a sudden ask yourself – did I install a program that may have added an Outlook plugin?

You can check for installed Outlook plugins and disable/delete them by following these steps (for Outlook 2010):

  1. Click File, Options
  2. Click Add-Ins, then next to “COM Add-ins” click “Go…”
  3. Uncheck or delete items that you do not want.
  4. Restart Outlook and see if that fixes the problem.
